Merging Two Homes into One: Tips on HVAC Systems

Spring Cleaning Your Central Air Conditioning System

When it comes to spring, there is so much to look forward to. The flowers start blooming, the weather gets warmer, and there are more daylight hours to enjoy. As with the start of any new season, this is a great time to get started on your cleaning.

When you think about cleaning, one of the last things that comes to your mind is your air conditioning unit. This a great time to do some preventative maintenance work on it before you start running it when the weather gets warm. This not only saves you money, but it can also help your air conditioning system run more efficiently. Get started with your spring cleaning with these tips that will help lower your energy bill and prevent problems with the A/C system.

Flush Your System

One of the best things you can do for your A/C system is to flush it out. This is to help remove any contaminants that can get trapped in the hoses. You never want to flush out the system while it is intact. This can mess up other parts of your unit. Instead, take apart the hoses that need to be flushed. This also helps ensure you get them flushed out efficiently. Ideally, you want to flush out the oil in the hoses, as this is where the contaminants can most likely be found. When flushing the hoses and other components, you need to make sure you are using an approved A/C flush solvent. If you use another kind, it can cause problems with the unit by breaking down the lubrication.

Replace the Filters

Each year, your air condition system loses up to 5% of its efficiency. One of the biggest reasons for this is due to it getting clogged with dust, pollen, grass clippings, and more. One of the easiest ways to boost your system's efficiency is by replacing the filters. This ensures that clean air travels in and out of the system so that it runs properly. Depending on what type of system you own will determine where the air filter is. In many cases, it is located inside the home. These should be replaced every season as the weather starts to change. By replacing the filters, you can also help reduce allergies in the home which can improve the overall air quality in the home.
