When To Call An HVAC Technician To Fix Your AC
If you have problems with your central air conditioning, there are some things you may be able to take care of yourself. However, if there are problems you aren't sure how to approach then you want to call out an HVAC technician rather than attempting to take care of the problem yourself. Use the guide below to determine whether or not you can take care of a problem with your air conditioner on your own:
The AC won't come on at all
Fix yourself - If the AC won't turn on at all, then you have a problem with the power getting to the unit somewhere along the line. Check to make sure the problem isn't with the fuse in the fuse box or the unit being off at the thermostat.
Call a technician - If the above things don't work, then there may be more serious issues with the electrical components that a professional like one from Air Pro Heating & Air will need to look into.
The unit isn't cooling evenly
Fix yourself - If you are having trouble getting the AC to disperse evenly throughout the house, then it signifies a problem with the air flow. It may be a simple fix of making sure all the vents are wide open.
Call a technician - If the vents are already open, there may be something stuck in a portion of the ducting or there may be a leak somewhere.
The AC shuts off before completely cooling
Call a technician - If the AC works, but shuts off before reaching the set temperature on the thermostat, then there is a good chance there is a problem with the thermostat. This is something that should be an easy fix for a technician, but should not be attempted by an amateur.
The AC blows warm air
Fix yourself – Your unit may be frozen. You can turn it off for a few hours to allow it to defrost and try it again.
Call a technician – If the air is warm, then it may need to be charged. The Freon is what makes the cool air and without enough of it, the system will only be able to produce warm air. An HVAC technician will charge the unit by adding more Freon to the unit.
The unit is making noises
Call a technician - If your AC system suddenly starts making some noises you have never heard before, there are a number of possible reasons. A whistling or hissing noise may be caused by something stuck in the system. A thumping sound may indicate there are loose parts in the condenser. Clicking sounds can be caused by a failing thermostat. Any noises you aren't used to hearing should be taken seriously and looked into by a technician who can troubleshoot the system correctly.
