Merging Two Homes into One: Tips on HVAC Systems

Three Ways To Keep Warm And Cozy While You're Awaiting A Furnace Repair

A furnace that breaks down might not concern you when the outdoor temperature is moderate, but if it's chilly outside the interior of your home will soon follow suit. It's important to call an HVAC repair service right away to get into the queue; many services are open 24 hours a day and will schedule a visit promptly, but it might be a handful of hours before the problem is fixed. In the meantime, hot showers and an extra layer of clothing can help keep you cozy until the heat is restored. Here are three other ways to stay as comfortable as possible.

Run Hot Appliances

While you might initially feel resistant about the idea of jacking up your utility bill while you wait for your furnace to get fixed, the reality is that you don't want your home to get cold to the point at which the pipes freeze. You can make the temperature inside your home more bearable by running the appliances that put off a significant amount of heat. Your stove and your oven are two obvious choices; for the latter, keep the door open after you're done cooking to allow the heat to escape into your home, rather than be vented outside. Running the clothes dryer is also effective, given the heat that this appliance produces.

Close Doors To Unused Rooms

The use of appliances, incandescent heat and even the heat off your body can provide warmth in your living quarters, but this heat will be diminished if it has to fill a space that's larger than necessary. Beat this problem by closing the doors to rooms that you don't need to keep warm. For example, if you have a spare bedroom or home office that you won't be using, keep it shut to allow the heat to build up in the rooms in which you're spending time.

Get Moving

If you've always considered adopting a home-based workout regimen, now's the time to take action. Fitness benefits aside, getting active in your home can increase your body temperature and help you feel more comfortable. Whether it's dusting off a treadmill or just trying some jumping jacks or jogging in place, these exercises will warm you up and could have you shedding your layers of clothing quickly. Not workout inclined? Grab the vacuum and clean your floors. By the time your furnace is repaired, you'll be able to smile about the restored heat and a cleaner home.
