Merging Two Homes into One: Tips on HVAC Systems

Store Owners: Why Does Your Commercial Fridge Keep Overheating?

Your refrigerator is one of the most vital commercial appliances in your store. Not only does the fridge keep your perishable products fresh and cold, it ensures that your customers receive the items they need on a daily basis. But if your refrigerator becomes so hot that it shuts off, you can lose more than your products. You could potentially lose customers as well. Learn why your commercial fridge overheats and how to fix the problem below.

Why Does Your Fridge Overheat?

Every refrigeration system relies on special compressors and fan motors to keep them operational and cool. The parts remove heat from the appliance and release it into the environment. But if dust builds up on one or more of these parts, your fridge can start to overheat. If your fridge repeatedly overheats, the fan motor and compressor can burn out, or they can simply fail.

Dust circulating through your store can settle on the motor and prevent it from releasing heat. Debris can also coat the fan's blades and interfere with its ability to spin at a normal speed. If possible, check your appliance's compressor and fan motor for dust. Turn off the refrigerator and try to remove the dust with a damp cloth. After you clean the fan and compressor, return power to your fridge and wait to see if it overheats.

If the refrigerator overheats again, schedule a service visit with a local HVAC contractor.

How Do You Prevent Your Fridge From Overheating?

An HVAC contractor will most likely perform a detailed inspection of your commercial refrigerator during the visit. If a contractor detects problems with the appliance's compressor, fan motor, or another part, they'll repair it. It may be necessary to replace a part instead of repair it. For example, compressors can wear down from long-time usage. This may be the case with your commercial fridge.

In addition, a contractor may look at other issues that could make your fridge overheat, such as a bad evaporator coil. If massive amounts of ice form on the coil, heat can stay build up inside the appliance and make it overheat. An HVAC contractor may need to deice the coil and repair other parts inside the appliance to keep it from becoming too hot.

If you've tried everything to cool down your commercial fridge, and nothing you do works, schedule a service call with an HVAC contractor who specializes in refrigeration equipment today.
