4 Heating Options For Your New Heating Unit Installation
Your heater keeps you warm in the cooler months. Even households in tropical climates will be happy they have a good heater on the few cold nights they see each year. When you build a new house or plan to install heating in a house without it, your heating contractor will ask you the type of heating system you want to install. Learn more about your heating system options.
1. Furnace
A furnace generates heat using gas or electricity. The warm air gets distributed throughout the home via ducts. Furnaces are a cost-efficient heating option, but if you don't already have ductwork in the home, you will have to pay to get that installed, too. Furnaces require regular preventative maintenance, and ducts require regular duct cleaning to ensure that the air it produces remains clean.
2. Boiler
A boiler uses hot water to transport heat through radiators in your home. Since the system doesn't blow air into your home, you don't need to worry about the boiler's impact on indoor air quality. Boilers also tend to create more even heat than furnaces. Boilers also produce heat more efficiently, meaning you'll pay less on your utility bill every year. Boilers tend to cost more, though.
3. Heat Pump
A heat pump doesn't use energy to create heat. Rather, it collects heat and moves it to the desired location. Geothermal heat pumps absorb heat from the ground, which always generates heat. Other heat pumps absorb heat from the air. Geothermal heat pumps can be used in any climate, while other heat pumps work best in tropical climates. Most heat pumps also offer the option to use electricity when unable to produce the desired results. While very expensive, many municipalities are offering discounts on new heat pump installs. Heat pumps are the most efficient option available.
4. Solar Panels
The sun naturally generates energy. Solar panels collect said energy and store it for later use. While still not practical for all climate locations, households in sunny climates may benefit from installing solar panels on their roof. There are several types of solar heating systems available. The main difference between solar heating systems is if they include a pump or not. Solar systems with a pump are more expensive but more effective and efficient.
